Welcome to Binche, a town of traditions and festivities where time seems to stand still in February to make way for one of Belgium's most iconic events: the Binche Carnival, recognized in 2003 as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. For three days, the town pulsates to the rhythm of drums, masks, and above all, the Gilles, emblematic characters in colorful costumes and wooden clogs, who stroll through the streets throwing oranges to the public in a spirit of joy and sharing.
